My magazine cover houses a picture of a student smiling at the audience, the denotation of this is that he is smiling and is happy, but the connotations could be that Wyke College is a warm and fun place and its students like to study there to achieve the best they can. I have used the image of the student as my brand image, I have used this image to create the belief of popularity to this person and the fact that the magazine is doing an exclusive in that person will contribute to the fact that this person is popular and people are interested enough to continue reading because they envy the attention. I have used ‘Wyke college magazine’ as the logo for my magazine, the colours I have used for this logo is purple and black, a black fill with black outline. I have used purple because it is college colours and I believe it stands out and is eye-catching. I have not included a barcode or a price tag in my front cover because my magazine is free of charge and available to anyone in the college. I do have a consistent house style with purple, black and white being the only colours. I have used an exclusive in my magazine; I believe this exclusive will give me the edge over other magazines as this magazine will be the only one to have it. I have included thumbnail images and captions, the thumbnails are pictures of geography and media trip. The indent in my magazine would be the logo; people will recognise that the institution of this magazine is Wyke College because of the logo.to create the image of a student outside smiling, I took a photo of a student, I then took a photo of the college. I then photoshopped the image of the student onto the image of the college. The brightness of the image of the student wasn’t right and looked out of place so I turned the brightness down and played around with contrast as well, even after the brightness was right, the image still looked out of place so I then blurred the edges of the image of the student. After all of this, finally the both the images looked like they belong to each other.I have used captions under the thumbnails of the geography and media trips, I included captions because without them they would just be pictures leading to nothing, the captions tell the audience of what the pictures relate to. By giving the information about the thumbnails, it could increase the audience’s interest in the magazine. The thumbnail could attract the audience in a personal level.
Ideology
The message I wish to send with my magazine is that Wyke College is a fun and full of interesting things to do. I also wish to inform the reader of the social aspects of college and to show that college life can be fun; I have included articles such as ‘Wyke party at position’. I believe the social side of the magazine will appeal to my target audience which is college students. Along with being a fun college I also wish to portray in my magazine that Wyke is a very serious college and all about achieving the best you possibly can.
Institution
The institution of my magazine will be Wyke College; the magazine will be made by Wyke for its students and teachers. I believe that Wyke would like to distribute my magazine because it will be making all the students and teachers aware of what is going on in the college, and inform them of things they wouldn’t have known otherwise.
Audience
The Audience of my magazine is going to be wyke students and teachers. The reason for this is because my magazine is about wyke. The demographic group I have focused on is 16-24; I have chosen this age group because my target audience lies between these ages. The group I have gone for on the VALS system is the outer-directed, I have chosen this group because college student thrive to achieve. I have focused on group E in the SEG groups because a lot of college students are not very skilled yet as they are still getting their qualifications and a lot of them don’t have jobs.
Representation
With my magazine, I will be representing Wyke College as a happy college and their aim is to get the best out of pupils. I did wish to portray as a stereotypical college but, only as in the way of education. The stereotypical view I wish to portray is that Wyke College is hardworking, happy college.
The college i am choosing is wyke college. i have chosen this college because i believe it has a lot ot offer to its students and i am currently a student in this college.
The masthead in this magazine is bold and eycatching. The masthead stands out because the coulor behind it is a different coulor. On the cover of this magazine, not a lot of range of colors is used with blue, gray and white being the dominanat colours. The viwer of this magazine is immediatley drawn to the image of the man and the woman on the cover, the magazine depicts the man and the woman are of what they probably believe the average student acts, dresses like. the image on the cover is not a real photograph but sort of a cartoon image, they are depicted as cool and stylish. in contrast, the contents page has a lot more colour on it, the contents page also has images, they could be improved by syaing which images relate to which story on the contents page. The layout of the contents page is overall better than the cover, the colours match more and overall looks better than the cover.

The ideoligy behind this college magazine is to inform people what goes on at grimsby college, on the cover it also says “ the word on the street”, this could mean that it itells people about what is currently the word on the street or maybe they take the magazine as the word on the street.

The institution of this magazine is not clearly shown, but at the bottom of the cover it says “THE GRIMBY INSTITUTE of futher & higher education”. This could mean that the institution of this magazine is the grimsby institute.
Audience
The target audience for this magazine is students or even students that are wishing to enrol, they are informed of what is currently going on. Besides informing its audience about things to do with the college, the magazine also has articles about the social aspects of college life such as students that are facing financial problems and students that in a family crisis.
Representation
The representation of this magazine is to show the audience of this magazine that the college is fun and has a relaxed atmosphere( connotation taken from image).the cover also has blue as a background, which has posotive connotations, which can make the audience believe that is is aposotve and great college.

Language
In terms of language on the front cover of student life magazine, there isnt much. There is just the masthead, issue date/month, college name and it also tells the audience that the magazine is free. The masthead on the cover is not very attracting and is relativley small compared to the space behind it that could have been used. The image on the cover is also not very appealing and doesn’t depict the college of being very social and in fact looks quite dull. There is also a lot of space at the bottom of the cover that is not used which also makes the name of the college that is there look quite small. Not a lot of colour has been used on the cover with black and white being the only colours.they have kept a consistent house style with black and white.
On the contents page however, they have used more colour and even have quite a few images, the have used the colour green that covers the writing on the contents page, this makes the writing stand out, if their goal was to make the writing stand out to the audience, then that is exactly what it does, but the colour green does not look verty attractive in a page full not very dominating colours such as bright green. Also the border on the images used is aslo different sizes which makes the contents page look unprofessional.te images also do not have captions, so the audience isnt told which picture relates to which story.the contents page does sort of follow the house style but, the added colour is green, this could have been added to make it stand out, in which case they have succeded in doing so. The colour gree however does not follow the house style and doesn’t look very attractive.

The representation of this magazine is to show people what it is like and how it feels to sudy at East Riding College.the content page of the magazine represents the college as happy and in a positive way,which can be took from the images of students smiling. The cover of the magazine is cmpletely different, it is potrayed negatively with colours such as black and white which can be associated with sadness.the image on cover also shows what seems to a group of students with their backs turned to the camera, this means that the audience cannot see the facial expressions of the students, which means the way they are feeling is unpredictable.

Language
The masthead is a dominating factor in this cover of the magazine. It is bold, colourful and straight away attracts the attention of the viewer. The imageon the cover also attrats the viewer, the image of a student looking intrigued will be appealing to the viewer because it sends a happy tone, which the audience can relate to because college should be a happy time. On the left side of the cover, the headlines are shown, the headlines are short, snappy and colourfull. They don’t give too much information away and compell the viewer to carry on reading the magazine to find out about the stories. The magazine overall gives professional look, but it doesn’t have a barcode and doesn’t inform the viewer of the price. The contents page is also very bright and colourful, the contents page is very simple but also effective. On the contents page it has a ‘word from the editor’ which gives the magazine a professional look as most magazines have this on their contents page.

The institution of this magazine would be King Ed’s sixth form college. This magazine was made to promote themselves in the college.

The ideoligy behind this magazine is probably to introduce new students to the college as on the contents page it shows a range of courses available at the college. It may be to also show that King Ed’s college is happy college and serious about eduation as shown by the headlines.
Audience
The audience of this magazine will be 16-19 year olds (college students), because it is a magazine made for the college and its students.
Representation
This magazine represents King Ed’s as a warm, happy and serious about education college. They have used bright and colourful colours such as red, blue, green and yellow which all gaive a welcoming feeling and have posotive connotations.
